Pack or Boxed Set?

Translations

First published in 1611, the King James Version uses a much older version of English, including “thee” and “thou” and similar terms. However, many find that its poetic style is very easy to memorize, and because it’s been around for so long, these verses may already be more familiar to many people than verses from newer translations. KJV, like ESV, is also a more word-for-word translation of the original text languages than the NIV’s thought-for-thought style. It also frequently uses masculine nouns and pronouns like the ESV, while the NIV is more gender-neutral.

First published in 2001 by Crossway, the ESV uses more conversational and current language than the KJV, yet is also more literal and word-for-word like the KJV instead of the more thought-for-thought translation of the NIV. It also frequently uses masculine nouns and pronouns like the KJV, while the NIV is more gender-neutral. 

First fully published in 1978 by Zondervan, the NIV has become a favorite among many Christians for its readability. It is a more thought-for-thought translation than the word-for-word translations of the KJV or ESV. The NIV is also updated often to reflect changes in the English language, including being more gender-neutral than the KJV or ESV. The most recent update was published in 2011.
